Start with the Basics
What you need:
- Domain name
- Web hosting
- Web design and code
- Logo, photos, and graphics
Domain Name
If you look at the web address of this page, you'll see http://www.izoky.com/how-to/start-a-website/start-with-basics.php in the address bar. Our domain name is "izoky.com".
Domain names are obtained through a domain name registration provider and need to be renewed on an annual basis, but can be prepaid for years in advance. You can register a domain name separately from web hosting, but there are web hosting providers who include a domain name for a discounted rate (or even free) when you sign up for hosting. Keep this in mind if you're close to getting a site up.
Web Hosting
You need web hosting for a place to upload and store your files. Web hosting fees are typically charged on a monthly basis. After you obtain your web hosting and domain name, you can set up an email adddress with your domain name like yourname@yourdomain.com. The number of email accounts you're able to set up will depend on your hosting package.
We work with Arbor Hosting as our exclusive domain name and hosting provider.
Web Design and Code
The easiest way to build a website is to use a template builder or hire a web design company to design and develop. Template builders are typically less expensive, but are limited in terms of flexibility and customization. Web design companies can offer custom designs or templates and will range greatly in price and design ability.
Logo, Photos, and Graphics
It's pretty important to have a website with visual appeal. Logo design is separate from web design and you should have a logo before starting on your website. Nice product photos, graphics, and stock photos can make all the difference in giving your products and entire website a professional look.
