Add Your Business to Google Map Local Listings
If you've ever done a search for a local business on Google, chances are you've seen a small map with listed companies within your results. (See image on right.)
This is a free listing and you should absolutely add your company if you have a local business (e.g., restaurant, hair salon, mechanic, etc.)
One of the benefits of being listed in Local Business Listings is that you have the potential to appear high in the search results, even if your website doesn't show up in the regular search results
To add a listing:
- Visit Google Local Business Center (http://www.google.com/lbc/).
Sign in with your exisitng Google account or create a new one.
- Click "Add new listing" and fill in the necessary fields. Try to include
photos for extra impact. Ideas include: store front and interior,
logo, and products.
- After you submit your information, Google will need to verify that this
is an authorized listing either by phone or address verification.
Phone verification can be done immediately, while address verification
requires Google to mail you a postcard, which may take 2-3 weeks.
- When you receive your PIN by phone or mail, enter it in the appropriate field to verify your business. Within 24 hours, your company listing will be available to see on Google Local Business Listings.
